At MWS Remedial Massage, nerve impingement is a condition patient sometimes present with. This condition occurs when the muscles surrounding a nerve structure exert pressure and restrict its natural functioning. The compression and tension on the nerve can give rise to a distinctive sensation that clients often describe as pins and needles, along with feelings of numbness and tingling. These sensations can be quite discomforting.

One of the well-known instances of nerve impingement is the sciatica nerve impingement. This particular type of impingement typically manifests as discomfort extending from the back of the legs down to the side of the lower leg, even affecting the buttocks. Patients often seek relief from the discomfort caused by this condition.

CAUSES

It's important to note that nerve impingement can occur under various circumstances. However common underlying causes are:

- muscle overuse

- adequate mobilisation before and after activities such as exercise or high repetition or loaded tasks

- Engaging in physical activities without proper warm-up or cool-down routines

MANAGEMENT

Through targeted massage techniques, we help release pressure on affected nerve, promoting its proper function and providing relief from the referred sensations. Additionally, we also educate our patients about the significance and importance of effective warm-up, cool-down, and muscle care routines to prevent future occurrences of nerve impingement.
