Thoracic kyphosis is a medical condition characterised by an excessive curvature of the spine in the upper portion. This curvature is more pronounced than what is typically considered normal. There are two distinct classifications of thoracic kyphosis: structural and functional. Among these, the functional type is more prevalent, primarily owing to lifestyle habits.

CAUSE

Functional thoracic kyphosis is the more commonly encountered form of this condition, often developing due to habitual patterns in daily life. Activities such as prolonged desk work, engaging in sports like Muay Thai and boxing, or any other tasks that involve extended periods of upper spinal curvature can contribute to the development of functional thoracic kyphosis. This type of kyphosis is often linked to the demands placed on the spine by modern living and work habits.

SYMPTOMS

- Back Discomfort, some patients may report ongoing or sporadic back discomfort

-Stiffness and Limited Movement

- Increased Fatigue

- Nerve Compression, commonly tingling and or numbness referral down the arm though not limited.

- Headaches

- Activity Limitations, excessive spinal curvature can cause barriers for patients performing some activities that require thoracis extension including barbell front squat or backstroke swimming

- Psychological Impact
